The process

The method of manufacture employed by T.S.M. is, to the best of our knowledge, unique and offers many advantages over conventional rollforming methods.

  • The process involves the use of the JRLE ring rolling machine (see Equipment) and tooling designed to capture and grip the component. Whilst the component is held roll tools then introduce the profile at an infinitely controlable feed rate.
  • Profile forming is undertaken "in the round". This means the component is formed from a flat blank or welded band, as the form is rolled the diameter or radius is formed automatically.
  • No "lead in" or "tail out" waste. Conventional curving methods leave a straight portion at the start and at the end of the blank the length of which depends on the curving device roll centres. This waste is eliminated.
  • Segments manufactured induvidually. The manufacture of complete rings which are subsequently cut into individual components is not required. Segments can be made from from flat or laser cut individual blanks.
  • Any form of twist or deformity is kept to a minimum or eliminated as a natural effect of the process, even in the most unbalanced of profiles.
